CCC Remodel Q&A: November 2013

1)   What is the general scope of work to be done?

For this phase (Phase 2), we intend to complete 3 new classrooms on the first floor in our building to accommodate nursery and toddlers. We will also add a warming kitchen and a teachers’ meeting/lounge area.

Phase 2 will also add a 2nd story above each room (2 & 3) where we intend to provide a new room for our high school ministry and a room for special functions and/or a library, etc. (you can see an example of a completed 2nd story room where the Junior High ministry is located)

Note: Access to the new upstairs rooms will not be available until we build Phase 3, which will finally tie the building together. Phase 3 will provide a central stairway and an ADA compliant elevator to the 2nd story. Until this is completed, we will need to use the 2 new upstairs rooms for storage only, not for occupancy.

2)   What is the timeframe for the project?

The estimate given to us by our general contractor to complete Phase 2 is 4.5 months from the time they mobilize.

3)   How will this facilitate ministry?

The new classrooms will give us a better facility (you can see our completed rooms for K and Pre-K) in which to minister to the little ones and their families. It should also alleviate some of the traffic in the main hallway, since access and check in areas for the new classrooms will be relocated in a separate hallway.

The warming kitchen and teachers’ lounge will help to facilitate a preschool should Calvary Chapel Chico choose to step in to this area of ministry and outreach.

4)   Will this work be done in phases or all at once?

As mentioned above and Lord willing, we will complete Phase 2 in 4.5 months from mobilization. We hope to begin Phase 3 (stairway and elevator) during or very soon after Phase 2 construction is complete.

5)   What is our projected cost for the project?

We have a bid to complete all work on Phase 2 for $528,000. We do not yet have a bid for Phase 3, but we anticipate that the cost of Phase 3 will be quite a bit less than Phase 2. There will be no plumbing requirements in Phase 3, and the elevator we have researched will only be required to comply with minimum ADA standards. We have artist’s renderings of the completed stairway on display in our main hallway.

6)   How does this compliment a long-term vision for Calvary Chapel Chico?

Pastor Sam & Pam have a shared vision to reach out and minister to families in our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This is one of the reasons we have seen such a wonderful work of God through the children and youth ministries at Calvary. We believe the further development of our facility will enable us to be even more effective in this work.

Along with the development of preschool areas, we hope to install a playground for the kids. We also hope to build a separate sanctuary and convert our current sanctuary into a fellowship hall and multi-purpose room. Which will hopefully provide indoor basketball and other types of activities to draw in youth.

The Lord has generously provided Calvary Chapel Chico with 7 acres of land. We hope that this remodel leads to further development of our outside facilities with fields for play and outdoor meeting areas.

Please be in prayer for this endeavor. We believe that “as The Lord guides The Lord provides”. We dedicate this work to His Name, in hopes that He will continue to use His church at Calvary Chapel Chico to glorify His Son in many more lives.
