On The Horizon
As Pam and I prepare to celebrate 30 years of ministry at Calvary Chapel Chico this December, we look back in wonder at all God has accomplished as we have learned to walk by faith in Him. Having begun our life together without the Lord, we’re amazed that He chose, forgave, and adopted a couple of spiritual orphans; giving us life, purpose, and a vision to reach others with the Gospel and teach the Word of God that has changed our lives.
Our early years of ministry in Chico began with what we now call “Our 17-Year Wilderness Experience” as we worshiped in storefronts, vacant church buildings, parks, public schools, homes, and veterans halls. Then in the year 2000, God provided the movie theater in which we now worship, study, and fellowship. Starting out with 25 people who came together in a storefront located on 5th & Mangrove, we’ve watched God multiply the number of people attending CC Chico into a vibrant fellowship where the Gospel is preached, God’s Word is taught, and God’s people are being prepared to serve and represent our Lord and Savior, Jesus.
Our 2013 Summer-Outreach to children through three weeks of Vacation Bible School was one of the most fruitful ever. More than 180 servants (many of them teens who’ve grown up both physically and spiritually here at CCChico) ministered to nearly 400 children, and 70 of those children made first-time commitments to Christ. That’s nearly half of the 143 decisions we’ve seen in the past four years from over 1500 children attending VBS!
While we’re grateful for past and present blessings, our hearts are set on the future…
Now that summer vacations have come to an end and our children, teens, and grandchildren are focusing on school, we’re rolling up our sleeves and preparing for a major makeover of the northeast wing of CCChico…
Building plans have been submitted and approved for some major renovation as theaters 2 and 3 are about to be transformed into much needed classroom space downstairs with a new High School room and a multipurpose fellowship area upstairs.
A small team of mature and faithful men have been assigned to oversee the project. This will enable our pastors to continue focusing on making disciples by preaching the Gospel, teaching the Word, and praying for and fellowshipping with God’s family.
